Boone Central musical ‘Newsies’ set this weekend

‘Newsies’ pose a photo as they go on strike for fair treatment.
They were called “Newsies.”
These were the young people hawking newspapers on the streets of New York City in 1899, and they were battling against publishing titan Joseph Pulitzer, who raised the price of newspapers at the newsboys’ expense.
So the charismatic Newsies leader, Jack Kelly, and his cohorts organize a strike in response.
“Newsies” is the rousing story of that strike, enlisting the help of reporter Katherine Plumber to tell the story of the “little man” and his struggle against the most powerful media moguls of the time.
The musical is based on a 1992 musical comedy-drama film produced by Walt Disney Pictures.
The three public performances will be Friday and Saturday, March 26-27 at 7 p.m., and Sunday, March 28, at 2 p.m.  Contact Jenni Grape to reserve tickets at jgrape@boonecentral.esu7.org or through FaceBook. Those who have reserved tickets are asked to enter through the west elementary doors.
The cast and crew involves some 55 students.
