Cardinal golfers getting back into swing of it

Boone Central golfers have been busy preparing for the 2021 boys golf season after missing 2020 competition due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Cardinals have a good number of participating golfers and second-year Coach Eric Albers says they are anxious for the new season to begin.
“It was a short season last year to the point we only got two weeks of practice before the season ended,” Albers commented. “We have a really good number out for golf, with 13 participating.”
Albers listed James Erickson and Jacob Devine as the most experienced golfers returning for the Cardinals, and feels Carsten Bird, Calvin Webster and Thane Hardwick can be new ‘impact’ players.
“We’re a young team when it comes to tournament experience, but a lot of the kids have put in time over the summer,” he noted. “The best thing about this group so far this spring is they want to get better each day. A lot of them stay after (practice) and play extra holes. Since we don’t have a lot of experience coming back, this group will be competing each day to see who will be playing in each event.
“I’m excited to see where this team will go as we get further into the season.”
Boone Central will compete in Class C as part of the Mid-State Conference, and will be in the C2 District at Oakland-Craig for postseason state qualifying.
Cardinals participating in boys golf in 2021 are:
Seniors – James Erickson, Jacob Devine. Juniors – Carsten Bird, Calvin Webster. Sophomores – Colton Simons, Lucas Krueger, Darren Petersen, Harrison Kuta, Eli Dozler. Freshmen – Thane Hardwick, Kolton Rasmussen, Ben Reilly, Luke Curry.
