BC Quiz Bowl team second in conference

Boone Central Quiz Bowl teams capped their 2021 season last week with second and third place finishes at the Mid-State Conference competition at Norfolk Catholic.
The junior-senior team of Richard Cleveland, Zane Niemann, Isaak Welch, Meredith Birch and Gavin Dozler placed second, while the freshman-sophomore team of Harrison Kuta, Dylan Baumgartner, Tanner Bauld, Eli Dozler, Israel Uma and Graham Kahlandt placed third overall.
“For the seniors, that is their third runner-up finish, so they have done a great job throughout high school,” said coach Jeff Hrabek.
“Overall, it has been a successful year,” he added.
The season started with districts at Central City, where the team of Richard Cleveland, Zane Niemann, Isaak Welch, Matthew Starman, Seth Wright, Meredith Birch and Gavin Dozler won three matches and lost two, finishing in the top six among 19 teams.
Next was the David City meet, where the team of Zane Niemann, Isaak Welch and Merdith Birch won three and lost one. The team of Harrison Kuta, Tanner Bauld, Eli Dozler and Graham Kahlandt won one and lost three against solid competition. 
The older team of Richard, Zane, Isaak and Matthew also competed at Northeast Community College and placed in the top four among 32 teams.
