Boone Central hosted the annual Mansfield Invitational track & field meet on a chilly, blustery day Thursday, April 1.
There was no April Fools for the Cardinals, who turned in numerous strong performances against athletes from Fullerton, Madison, Schuyler and Norfolk.
“We were really happy with our kids’ performances. We saw some great improvements in several areas,” Boone Central Coach Susan Roberts praised. “The girls had 17 season bests and there were 15 by the boys.
“We also saw some kids struggle in a few events, as they are trying to make changes and improve their technique. That is all part of the process. It was great to see them remain competitive throughout the day.
“We are looking forward to seeing some conference and district teams in our next two, double-session meets. That will give us a good gauge of where we are as a team.”
The Cardinal girls had 12 first-place efforts Thursday and the boys won 11 events.
Ava Duerksen swept the 100 (13.12) and 200 (27.09) meter dashes, Ava Buhlamnn won the 100 meter (17.50) and 300 meter (53.57) hurdles, and Mara Ranslem took top honors in the high jump (4’10) and 400 meter dash (1:07.52).
Jackson Roberts pulled off a victory double in the long jump (18’6) and 110 meter high hurdles (16.12), Wyatt Nissen zipped to wins in the 100 (11.14) and 200 (22.64) meter dashes, and Ryan Kramer won the high jump (6’) and 300 meter hurdles (42.39).
