Boone Central Board acts on playground project

Boone Central School Board accepted a change order and bids Monday night for the new school playground to be built on Prairie Street and school owned lots north of the street.
The plan is to remove the street surface and install the base play areas and concrete this summer. Actual playground equipment will likely be installed in 2022.
The board approved a change order proposal from the middle school contractor, W. A. Klinger, at $301,374 for site preparation, concrete work, retaining wall and fencing. This amount will be partially paid from the project lease-purchase contingency funds, using no more than $200,000 from the depreciation account.
The board also accepted a bid of $102,280 for site preparation, playground turf and concrete curbing from Crouch Recreation, Inc. of Elkhorn, and a bid of $34,140 from Dostal Construction for playground drainage, fabric and wood fiber for the play areas. Both of these amounts will be paid from the depreciation account.
The design allows for surface water to drain through the area.
