High school golfers were not blessed with enjoyable weather conditions this past week, but nonetheless held early-season competitions at the Albion Country Club.
Boone Central hosted and won a quad event Tuesday, April 13. The Cardinals posted a 197 team score in the nine-hole competition and finished comfortably ahead of Fullerton (212), Twin River (222) and Riverside (234).
“It was good for the varsity to win the quad,” Card Coach Eric Albers acknowledged. “We had some good individual scores.”
Thane Hardwick led Boone Central with a 45. James Erickson carded a 48, Carsten Bird finished at 50 and Calvin Webster rounded out the team total with a 54. Jacob Devine shot 56.
The Cardinal JV finished with a 232 team total with scores by Luke Curry (53), Colton Simons (59), Ben Reilly (60), Lucas Krueger (60) and Harrison Kuta (69).
Fullerton’s Kirby Smith (41) had the day’s low round in chilly, breezy conditions.
In brisk weather again Saturday, the Cardinals hosted the annual Boone Central Invitational.
Pierce won the 12-team tournament with a 341 total, followed by Wayne (349), Lakeview (369) and Ord (369). Boone Central (383) placed seventh.
“The team continues to improve as we progress in the season,” Albers commented. “In the first tournament at Ord, we shot 409 as a team. In this invite, we shot 383, so we are improving.”
Hardwick again had the best day for the Cardinals, earning the 10th place medal with an 18-hole total of 88. Rounding out scoring for Boone Central were Bird (19T – 93), Webster (35T – 101), Devine (35T – 101) and Erickson (41 – 103).
