Chemigation permit applications due June 1

Irrigators are reminded that June 1, 2021 is the deadline to file applications for chemigation permits with their NRD, and the deadline is just days away.
Chemigation is the process of applying agricultural chemicals by injecting them directly into the water moving through an irrigation system. Hundreds of irrigators across the Lower Loup use chemigation to apply fertilizers and pesticides to their fields every year.
Nebraska law states that before an irrigator can start chemigation, a permit must be obtained from the local NRD. Applications for chemigation permits can also be picked up at Natural Resources Conservation Service offices and University of Nebraska Extension offices.
For more information on chemigation or to receive an application for a chemigation permit, call the Lower Loup Natural Resources District, (308) 728-3221.
Completed permit applications can be mailed or left at the drop box at the LLNRD headquarters, 2620 Airport Drive in Ord.
