Robert Sandman hired as county weed superintendent

Boone County Commissioners hired Robert Sandman of Albion as county weed control superintendent after the position had gone unfilled for several weeks since Jack Nordeen had resigned the position.
Sandman retired recently from the Nebraska Department of Transportation. He is licensed for commercial pesticide application, and holds the required right-of-way and ag plant certifications.
Commissioner Jon Lindgren had agreed to handle some spraying on a temporary basis, but his services will not be needed with Sandman taking the position.
The weed superintendent position has been changed to a seasonal position from May 1 through Sept. 30, a maximum of 16 hours per week and pay of $20 per hour.
New HVAC Unit
Rod Nelson, courthouse maintenance man, reported that a rooftop HVAC unit on the courthouse is in need of repair. Cost of a replacement coil is $6,234, and the cost of an entirely new unit is $10,493. Commissioners approved replacement of the complet unit.
