Cornerstone Seniors bounce back with wins

Albion’s Cornerstone Legion Seniors crept back over the .500 mark (4-3) with rousing victories over Neligh and Schuyler.
Cornerstone pitchers Trent Patzel and Sam Grape combined to no-hit host Schuyler in a 16-0 victory Sunday. Patzel earned the victory, striking out eight batters in four innings.
Albion scored the only two runs it would need in the first inning, Patzel driving in Ryan Kramer (leadoff walk) with a single and going home on Kyle Preister’s base hit. Cornerstone was far from finished at the plate, however, putting up a nine-spot in the third. The Seniors sent 14 batters to the plate, with Austin Kahlandt and Caden Stokes stroking back-to-back doubles, and James Fogleman adding a triple.
PWG (Palmer-Wolbach-Greeley) dropped Albion Cornerstone to 2-3 with a 6-3 win at Leon Nelson Memorial Field (Albion Sports Complex) June 2. The visitors built a 6-0 lead through the top of the fourth inning and single runs by Albion in the fourth, fifth and sixth weren’t enough to complete the rally. Preister took the loss, allowing six runs (only two earned). Kramer, Carsten Bird and Calvin Webster all had two hits for Albion.
Cornerstone rebounded from that disappointment nicely, thumping host Neligh 20-0 in four innings the following night. Kramer was the winning pitcher, allowing one hit in three innings and striking out seven. Webster cleaned up with two innings, also giving up one hit while fanning four batters. At the plate, Preister cracked three hits, with Kramer, Bird and Webster each adding two. Preister also scored four runs and drove in three. Patzel scored three times and Seth Wright delivered four RBI.
Albion Cornerstone Seniors play Twin River tonight (8:15) and St. Paul Friday (8:00) at Leon Nelson Memorial Field (Albion Sports Complex), then wrap up the week at PWG Sunday (Greeley, 7:00).
