Beierman, Card golfers open successfully

Taylor Beierman

The Boone Central girls golf team opened its 2021 campaign with a fourth place finish in the O’Neill Invitational Aug. 19.
The Cardinals, led by individual runner-up Taylor Beierman, posted a 450 team score, finishing behind champion Valentine (402), Battle Creek (403) and O’Neill (412). Pierce completed the top five with a 470 total.
Beierman carded an 18-hole score of 92 to place second to Valentine’s Mekallyn Bancroft (87). Beierman finished two strokes in front of Battle Creek’s Molly Heimes (94). Madi Hampton (99) of O’Neill was the only other played in the field of 41 varsity golfers to break 100.
“We were excited to get our season started. While we posted a little higher scores than we were hoping, it was really good to be back on the course in a competitive atmosphere,” said Boone Central second-year Coach Amy Ahlers. “I saw a lot of positive things happening across the board from each of our players. Moving forward, we are going to work on staying away from the bigger numbers and strengthening our short game. With work in those areas, I have no doubt we will see tremendous improvement.
“A huge bright spot was Taylor Beierman. She finished second with a 92,” Ahlers added. “All day, she played very consistent golf. She struck the ball well and had great touch around the greens.
“Taylor spent countless hours on the golf course this summer, and it was so good to see that pay off today. Very, very happy things are in store for her this season!”

Boone Central followed up its tourney success with an easy victory over Fullerton in a dual Monday at the Albion Country Club.
“We made some good things happen on our home course!” Ahlers exclaimed. “As an entire team, I saw so many improvements since the last tournament. We hit some solid shots and our short game was better.
“We’ve got a little time off now before our next meet, but we plan to spend a lot of that time on the practice green and driving range to make a few minor tweaks to help us gain some confidence before the West Holt Invite September 3.
“I’m excited about the direction the team is moving!”
The Cardinals defeated Fullerton 204-223 as Beierman again recorded the low score (44) on the ACC nine-hole layout. Emmah Benson shot a 48, second to Beierman among golfers from both teams. Rounding out Boone Central’s scoring were Rachel Malander (55), Kaylee Krohn (57) and Cassidy Maricle (58) in varsity play. Cardinal JV scoring was Madyson Zoucha (62), Belle Brodersen (71) and Britney Naber (73).
