Cardinals boost mark to 2-0 with second half surge

The Boone Central Cardinals forged a tie game in the final seconds of a sloppy first half, then improved their efficiency in the final two quarters and pulled away to a 28-13 victory over visiting Minden Friday night.
The first half was a melange of mistakes, penalties and turnovers by the Cardinals. A bit of halftime inspiration and sharper focus guided Boone Central to a second straight victory to open the 2021 Class C-1 football season.
“Minden was tough to scout, as their first game was decided in the first quarter due to runovers. They have a good team and came out and took it to us in the first half,” said Boone Central Coach Mark Hudson. “We also might have had some letdown after being so focused on North Catholic.
“We did enough to win, and that’s a testament to our kids persevering and continuing to fight.”
