It was wild. It was crazy. It was exciting. And harrowing.
The Boone Central Cardinals remained undefeated Friday night at Central City, defeating the host Bison 46-35 in a contest that kept fans on the edge of their seats – or on their feet – throughout.
With music blaring, tension high and the hosts primed for an upset victory, Boone Central stood its ground and delivered in one of the most hostile environments many of the young Cardinals had faced.
The outcome was not truly decided until James Fogleman boosted the Boone lead to double digits with a field goal in the final seconds.
“We found a way to win. It was a crazy game, with lots of emotion, and there is no real way to describe it,” said Cardinal Coach Mark Hudson. “I just want to congratulate all those who stayed positive and persevered through adversity.
“We faced a lot of it and stayed mostly locked in.”
There was no shortage of ups and down, twists and turns in a contest with an abundance of big plays, curious decisions, mistakes at times and, most of all, heroics.
