With great fall weather, the Boone Central Cardinals hosted their annual invitational tournament Saturday at the Albion Country Club and continued their 2021 progress with a fourth-place finish.
The young Cards, despite team members Taylor Beierman and Belle Brodersen missing the event due to family commitments, posted a solid 426 team total, trailing only champion Scotus (365), O’Neill (393) and Battle Creek (420).
Boone’s Emmah Benson was the sixth-place individual medalist and Rachel Malander placed 15th.
“We had a beautiful day for our invite! It’s always fun having an opportunity to play on our home course, and the girls definitely took advantage of it,” Cardinal Coach Amy Ahlers said. “Everyone showed a new level of confidence – they stayed patient, played one shot at a time, and kept a positive mind set throughout the day.
“I’m excited to see them keep this energy and momentum as we enter the final weeks of the season. We have a lot of golf coming up, and I’m really looking forward to seeing them continue to get better and better.
“I truly believe the best is yet to come!”
Boone Central prepped for the invitational in the Lakeview triangular Sept. 16 at Columbus Quail Run Golf Course. The Cardinals placed second with a team total of 191, as Taylor Beierman and Emmah Benson tied for third among individual golfers.
Cardinal 9-hole scores were: Beierman 41, Benson 41, Kaylee Krohn 54, Rachel Malander 55, Cassidy Maricle 66.
