Coach Ahlers pleased with steady progress by Card golfers

Boone Central girls golf coach Amy Ahlers was pleased with the progress she witnessed by her Cardinals this past week in invitational tournaments at Fullerton and Wayne.
“The girls have truly stepped up this past week and continue to improve each and every tournament,” Ahlers praised. “I’m so very proud of this group, and I’m ready to see what they’re able to accomplish as we finish out the season!”
Boone Central placed fourth in the Fullerton Invitational at Pawnee Hills Golf Course Tuesday, Sept. 21. The Cardinals posted a 437 team score over 18 holes.
Boone’s Taylor Beierman was the third place medalist with a 92, improving her first-round 50 to a 42 on a second circuit. Additional Cardinal scores were by Cassidy Maricle (109), Kaylee Krohn (113), Madyson Zoucha (123) and Rachel Malander (124).
“There were so many positive takeaways from Fullerton. One of the biggest bright spots was our ability to keep fighting from start to finish,” Ahlers commented. “We came back much stronger on our second nine, as we started to better adjust our short game to fit the big, quick greens.”
Another Step Forward
Boone Central traveled north Thursday and took fifth place honors in the Wayne Metteer Invitational at the Wayne Country Club.
Scotus (379) ran away with the team championship, followed by Battle Creek (407), LCC (415), O’Neill (416) and Boone Central (427).
Ahlers felt the tournament was another positive step forward for the Cardinals, who were led by third-place medalist Taylor Beierman (90).
“I am really excited about what I saw happen at Wayne!” Ahlers exclaimed. “The Wayne Country Club is not an easy golf course – it plays long. This team accepted the challenge and posted some great scores.”
Joining Beierman in scoring were Cassidy Maricle (112), Madyson Zoucha (112), Rachel Malander (113) and Kaylee Krohn (134).
