Boone Central battled tough conditions and competition, coming through with flying colors and a third-place finish in the Mid-State Conference Championships at Crofton Thursday, Sept. 30.
The Cardinals finished with a 441 team total, matching Pierce and trailing only O’Neill (407) and Battle Creek (432). Taylor Beierman was the individual runner-up medalist, shooting 48/47-95 on a challenging golf course.
“It was a good day at Crofton!” Boone Coach Amy Ahlers exclaimed. “That golf course is a challenge. It’s long and extremely hilly, with lots of trees. The greens took some time to adjust to, some of the hazards came into play, and the weather got a little wet toward the end, leading to a few bigger numbers than we would have liked.
“The girls did a good job of hanging in there though; there were many positive takeaways and bright spots. Overall, we were able to stay patient and take it one hole at a time.”
Also contributing to Boone Central’s team score were ninth-place medalist Emmah Benson (56/53-109), Madyson Zoucha (59/55-114) and Kaylee Krohn (64/59-123). Additional Card competitors were Kathryn Kohtz (124), Cassidy Maricle (128) and Britney Naber (JV, 170).
