County museum displays handmade Irish quilt

One of the oldest quilts in the Boone County Historical Society Museum’s collection came from Ireland to Boone County in the 1850s.
It is a well-used, preserved, red and green quilt.
According to a history of the quilt written by the late Boone County resident Shirley Foss, the quilt was brought to America from Ennistymon, Ireland, in 1856 when my great-grandparents, Patrick and Bridget Feeley Curtain, came to America. They settled initially in Massachusetts and later emigrated to Creighton, Nebraska, and family members later homesteaded a quarter section of land east of Raeville.
