Cardinals competitive in Wayne Blue Devil Invite track/field

The Wayne Blue Devil Invitational track and field competition is not one of the larger meets around, with six schools competing. However, it does make up in quality what is lacking in quantity, featuring traditionally strong mid-class programs such as host Wayne, 2022 champion Pierce, Boone Central, Lakeview and Scotus.
Pierce won both the girls and boys team titles this past Tuesday, April 5, with Lakeview placing second in each division. Boone Central was a competitve third in the boys competition and fourth in the girls division. In combined scoring, Boone finished third behind the Bluejays and Vikings.
The Cardinals, facing their toughest competition to date, again had some outstanding individual efforts, led by junior Jack Roberts.
Roberts swept the 110 meter hurdles (15.36) and 300 meter hurdles (42.16) and joined teammates Alex Christo, Brant Benes and Parker Borer to win the 4×400 meter relay (3:34.26). He also took second place in the long jump (20’3ΒΌ). Senior Harrison Dodds won another 1600 meter run, dipping below the 5:00 minute mark (4:55.47), and the 4×800 meter relay of Dodds, Ryan Drueppel, Jaden Hagemann and Zander Jarecki took first in 9:18.80.
Along with his relay duties, Borer placed second in the 100 meter dash (11.19) and third in the 200 meter dash (22.40). Christo was third in the 400 meter dash (54.67).
In girls competition, Ava Buhlmann captured first in the 300 meter hurdles (53.48) and was runner-up in the 100 meter hurdles (18.07). The Lady Cardinals also got a relay win, as the 4×100 meter team of KayLee Miller, Ashlyn Krohn, Mara Ranslem and Penelope Dozler prevailed (52.30).
Krohn placed second in the 100 meter dash (13.15) and Ranslem was runner-up in the high jump (4’6). Elle Webster also took second place in the pole vault (7’6).
