LLNRD ruling: No new high capacity wells in restricted area

Lower Loup Natural Resources District Board of Directors approved new restrictions on high-capacity wells in a portion of northern Boone County at their monthly meeting March 24. Supplemental well development and irrigated acre transfers into this area are already restricted.
The change now includes a restriction that says no new high capacity well permits will be granted in this area.
The well impact area boundaries were also increased to the northern and eastern boundaries of the NRD, down to Highway 91 near Albion and west to Beaver Creek.
The recent action follows an October 2021 board decision to restrict groundwater acre transfers and new supplemental wells. That decision also said that future irrigated acre development would not be allowed in this portion of Boone County.
