Big storm caused damage in area last week

Heavy straight line winds and rain arrived in the Boone County area Thursday afternoon, May 12, and caused damage.
Above, a pivot irrigation system west of Albion was blown over and twisted by the winds.
Below, the storm and strong winds broke power poles along Highway 14 northwest of Albion and caused a brief power outage. Damage to buildings and homes was also reported.
The storm was called a “dericho” with a wall of dust at its leading edge creating zero visibility in some areas.
Some instances of 60 to 80 mile per hour winds were reported in Northeast Nebraska.
