County Fair gets good weekend crowds

BEST OF THEME — The J Sports Bar and Grill float won Best of Theme in the fair parade.

It was hot last weekend, but there were still big crowds for the fair parade and the Tanner Pelster Memorial Stock Car Races at the Boone County Fair on Sunday, July 10.
The fair parade on Sunday afternoon featured 77 total entries, an increase of three from last year, according to Dana Mangelson, parade chairman.
Several thousand people lined the residential streets to watch the parade. Best of Theme award this year went to The J Sports Bar & Grill, with second place to the First Baptist Church of Albion.
Tanner Pelster Memorial Races filled the grandstand on Sunday evening, with a total crowd estimated at 3,500 people.
Although the attendance was smaller, Saturday’s Northeast Nebraska Pullers Association Tractor Pull provided excitement for tractor pull fans.
Kids turned out for the Boone County Kids Tractor Pull on Saturday afternoon, with 54 contestants in eight age groups (results on page 2). The Trucks R Fatty car show started off the fair Saturday morning.
Monday was Kids Day at the fairgrounds with a variety of entertainment, Red Neck Night at the grandstand, the Down Home Horse Show and opening night of the D. C. Lynch Carnival’s three day run.
Tuesday evening’s main event was the country music concert by Tyler Farr and special guest Muscadine Bloodline, and a big crowd was anticipated.

GOOD NEIGHBOR AWARD — Scott Brengelman, center, received the Boone County Good Neighbor Award Sunday morning for assisting Rebecca Richards Frandsen when she became stranded with car problems on a cold January night. Rebecca’s sister, Rhonda Richards, is with them on the right.
