Bittner family doubles contribution to new ambulance garage

Keith Bittner (center) presents a second $50,000 check toward the Boone County Ambulance garage to Sarah Grape, BCHC Foundation director. Other BCHC staff on hand included (l.-r.) Geoff McGill, maintenance supervisor; Dr. Tony Kusek; and (far right) Tanya Sharp, president and CEO.
Keith and the late Mary Bittner, along with their family, have made good on their challenge commitments for the new Boone County ambulance garage.
Last week, Keith presented a second $50,000 to the hospital on behalf of his family for the garage project. Accepting the check were hospital employees Dr. Tony Kusek, Tanya Sharp, Sarah Grape and Geoff McGill.
The county ambulance was used in Mary’s final days last spring to transfer her back home from the hospital in Omaha, after treatment would no longer help, so she could enjoy her final days at the family cabin in Running Water, SD.
With the Bittner family contributions, the fund drive has raised nearly $180,000 toward the $300,000 goal, and the drive will continue through the end of 2022. More than 100 donors have given to the project so far.
