Relay for Life surpasses funding goal, but attendance low

Survivors lap.
Boone County Relay for Life surpassed its fundraising goal, but had a small attendance of only about 35 people last Saturday evening, Aug. 13, in Albion’s Fuller Park.
The relay returned this year after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID pandemic. Many individuals and businesses were involved in sponsoring the event and providing prizes for the many available games, but attendance was disappointing.
The Relay for Life raised a total of more than $6,436 that went directly to the American Cancer Society to fund assistance to cancer patients and cancer research. This surpassed the $5,000 goal by 29 percent.
The relay represented six months of work by the volunteer committee.
