The other accident fatality was Dustin Geier, 39, of Columbus. In addition, four people were transported from the scene to CHI Health St. Francis Hospital, Grand Island, with non-life-threatening injuries.
Emergency crews were called at about 6:50 p.m. to the scene one-half mile east of Gunbarrel Road on Highway 30 in rural Merrick County.
The accident remained under investigation Tuesday by the Merrick County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of the Nebraska State Patrol’s advanced accident reconstruction team.
Seatbelts were not in use by Buechter. All others involved were properly restrained. Neither drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the accident.
Merrick County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, the Nebraska State Patrol, Grand Island Rural Fire Department, Grand Island EMS, Lone Tree Towing and the Nebraska Department of Roads.
Brady Buechter was a 2022 graduate of Riverside High School, Cedar Rapids.
