Card runners take big strides in Dickey Invite

Boone Central’s cross country runners took some big strides forward in Friday’s Tom Dickey Individual Invitational at the Albion Country Club.
The Cardinals boys team, led by overall 3rd place runner Zander Jarecki, placed second to Scotus, while the Boone girls took third, paced by Kassidy Beister (8th overall).
Even more impressive to Boone Central Coach Justin Harris were the time improvements by Card competitors in the three weeks since Boone’s initial 2022 invitational on its home course.
“It was a great day to compete, with nice weather, and the kids took advantage of that. We had four boys in the top 15 and four girls in the top 21,” Harris praised. “We saw some great improvements in three weeks, as many kids cut off a minute on their times and some cut off as much as three minutes of time.”
Boone Central had a season-best team score of 30 in the boys varsity race and trailed only Scotus (21). Elkhorn Valley (24) won the girls varsity race, with Boone (45) close behind team runner-up Scotus (41).
The Cardinals had a number of medal winners in Friday’s competition: Ronnie Fyfe (4th senior), Jarecki (1st sophomore), Logan Spence (2nd sophomore), Micah Cuevas (1st freshman), Beister (3rd freshman), Sydney Spangler (4th freshman), Ava Tisthammer (3rd Jr. High girls), Logan Kettelson (4th Jr. High boys).
All in all, a very positive day for Boone Central.
