Joint budget hearing draws few comments

Audience at the Sept. 26 joint public hearing.
A joint budget hearing for Boone County and Boone Central Public Schools attracted few public comments Monday evening, Sept. 26.
The hearing, required under the Nebraska Property Tax Request Act, was required for governmental subdivisions increasing their budgets by more than two percent plus “allowable real growth.”
In Boone County, only the county and school district were required to be represented at the hearing. Other taxing entities covered by the statute had tax requests below the required parameters.
About 15 people attended the hearing at the Boone Central High School Gym.
The county and school budgets were reviewed by officials, and only one public question was asked.
However, several of the audience members stayed to talk with officials after the hearing ended.
