A more robust Boone Central girls wrestling team proved it will need to be reckoned with in 2022, placing fourth in the 18-team O’Neill Invitational Saturday.
Weight class runner-up Cadence Wood led the Cardinals, who also got medal performances by Ashlynn Guthard (3rd), Leynn Luna (3rd), Maddie Reilly (3rd) and Payton Becker (4th).
“The girls had a great start to the season, placing fourth behind highly-rated Grand Island, Pierce and Battle Creek,” Boone Coach Josh Majerus acknowledged. “It was nice seeing our name on the scoreboard as one of the top five teams in a very tough tournament. When you have five freshman girls reach the medal rounds, there are going to be some points coming.
“All of the girls won some matches to add to the team race.”
