Lady Cardinals win first team title; Grape, Roberts champs for Boone boys; Wood 100th career win; Hudson new pin record
Saturday’s Boone Central/Dale Bonge Invitational tournament lost some expected teams due to adverse weather conditions in the northern region of the state. The annual event still featured tough competition and exciting action with top wrestlers from around the Nebraska.
The Boone Central girls won their first tournament, easily outdistancing a small field that included Top 10 Battle Creek.
“Leynn Luna tops the #2 rated girl in the state for the second time,” Boone Coach Josh Majerus noted.
Lady Cardinal champions were Leynn Luna, Cadence Wood, Mishayla Slaymaker, KayLee Miller, Payton Becker, Madison Reilly and Belle Brodersen.
Boone Central’s boys battled to a fourth-place finish, with Sam Grape and Thomas Roberts claiming weight class titles.
“It was a good home tournament. A lot of good things happened Saturday,” Majerus commented. “Sam Grape and Thomas Roberts earned champion. Sam dominated his competition, beating the Class D #2 rated wrestler and Class C #8.
“Carson Wood got his 100th career win, and Hank Hudson broke my school pin record after 18 years. Much-needed and well-deserved.”
