Boone Central gained a momentum boost for postseason play with a pair of victories this past week, running its current win streak to four games.
The Cardinals shined on Senior Night Tuesday, Feb. 7, blitzing visiting Centura 87-60. Boone raced to a 23-15 lead in the opening eight minutes and amassed a 50-28 advantage by halftime as Kolton Rasmussen knocked down four 3-pointers and tallied 18 points. Centura (9-12) was more competitive following intermission, but could never cut far into the Boone lead.
“We did a great job getting the looks we needed. We got the ball in the paint and had some good kick-out 3-point opportunities,” Card Coach Justin Harris praised. “Kolton shot the ball well, as he finished with five 3’s. Alex Christo reached 1,000 career points. He is the fourth player in Boone Central history to reach that milestone, joining Tyler Hedlund, Derek Gentrup and Matt Nelson.”

Boone Central (16-6) needed some grit and several clutch performances to nip Class B host Grand Island Northwest 66-60 in overtime Thursday.
The game was nip-and-tuck, back-and-forth throughout, with neither squad able to pull away to sizeable leads. Trailing by four points with 30 seconds remaining, Boone got an ‘and-1’ 3-point play by Alex Christo and Parker Borer’s subsequent free throw to send the contest to overtime. Spurred by that finish, the Cardinals outscored Northwest (6-14) 10-4 in the extra period.
“This was not the game we expected, but the game we needed,” Harris commented. “We made some key plays and did some small things that make a big difference at the end of games.”
“Along with the plays by Alex and Parker in regulation, Ryan Drueppel made some free throws at the end of OT to help seal the victory for us.”
