AEDC applies for $1 million housing grant, pledges exceed goal

Albion Economic Development Corp. (AEDC) is in position to meet all requirements for a Rural Workforce Housing Fund Grant this spring.
A major step was completed last week with a matching funds pledge campaign topping $500,000. Commitments were made for more than $570,000 in local match for the Rural Workforce Housing Fund (RWHF) Grant.
The community could potentially be awarded $1 million in state administered grant funds. Local matching funds, added to the potential grant funds, would create a revolving loan fund of over $1.5 million for housing.
Maggie Smith, AEDC economic development and housing program director, filed the grant application last Thursday, March 23. AEDC was eligible to apply for the grant as a qualifying nonprofit development organization.
