Card golfers tee off 2023 season

Despite inclement weather conditions, the Boone Central boys golf team began their 2023 campaign this past week.
In their first major competition of the spring season, the Cardinals placed 5th in the 10-team Ord Invitational Tuesday, April 4. The tournament, won by Grand Island Central Catholic (157), was shortened to 9 holes due to the cold, blustery conditions. Boone braved the elements to land squarely in the middle of the pack with a team score of 198.
Card Riley Nelson placed 4th individually and teammate Kyler Buck lost a tiebreaker for a medal position.
“We had a player get sick right before we left for Ord, so we only had four scoring players for the Ord tournament,” noted Boone Central Coach Eric Albers. “I was happy with how the guys played in tough elements of cold, winds over 40 miles-per-hour and, finally, sleet the last couple of holes.
“Also, Ord’s course is not easy to start the season – they have very sloped greens and very tough par 3s.”
Team scoring at Ord was: G.I.C.C. 157, St. Paul 167, Broken Bow 182, Ord 188, Boone Central 198, Ord JV 229, Burwell 233, Arcadia-Loup City 235, Central Valley NS, Neligh-Oakdale NS.
Nelson (40) and Buck (46) paced Boone Central, joined by Jackson Nelson (50) and Jace Rasmussen (62).
