Rae Valley event features ‘hands on’ fun

Pickin’ Taters — All ages helped pick up potatoes left behind by the antique potato digger.
Special events for kids were featured at the Nebraska State Antique Tractor & Horse Plowing Contest near Petersburg last Sunday.
With ideal weather on both Saturday and Sunday, the 41st annual event was very well attended by all ages.
Over 1,000 people visited Charlie’s Park during the two-day show, and many returned for both days.
Kids had opportunities to compete in a pedal tractor pull, visit a petting zoo, ride on carnival style rides, or play in the sand pile.
A favorite for all ages was the opportunity to pick up potatoes behind the antique “potato digger.” This year, an excellent crop was grown by the Rae Valley Heritage Association, so the field yielded plenty for everyone.
