Boone County to work with NACO on possible insurance plan changes

Boone County Commissioners approved a motion Monday to work with the Nebraska Association of County Officials (NACO) on potential changes in the county’s Blue Cross/Blue Shield employee health insurance program.
In August, the county had received a proposal from Benefit Management, LLC on possible changes to save premium cost.
A NACO representative also discussed their options for possible plan changes at that meeting.
Commissioners are considering possible changes to higher deductible health reimbursement account (HRA) or health savings account (HSA) policies that would allow the county to “buy down” a portion of deductible to reduce premium costs while maintaining the same benefits.
A NACO representative will be attending a future meeting to discuss insurance plan options and a possible transition in January.
Commission Chairman Larry Temme said a number of counties are switching to higher deductible plans for the coming year.
Commissioner Brian Yosten suggested the board ask NACO to keep them informed of potential insurance cost savings.
