Newman Grove FFA members will be involved in many contests and activities at the Nebraska State FFA Convention this week, April 3-5, in Lincoln. State FFA Degree recipients from Newman Grove will be Trent Patzel, Austin Wiese, Cora Patzel and Christyan Anderson.

Newman Grove FFA was selected to receive grant funding recently from Farmers Pride & Land O’ Lakes. Kirt Aase of Farmers Pride (second from right) presented the grant last week to (l.-r.) FFA members Austin Wiese and Trenton Patzel, and FFA advisor Mikayla Martensen.

Newman Grove Public School had three state qualifiers and one alternate advancing from the Nebraska Junior Academy of Science’s (NJAS) Northeast Regional Science Fair held March 22 at Wayne State College. Newman Grove state qualifiers advancing were the team of Jayden Benson and Madysen Wiese, as well as Serenity Strong.

A drama that features the World War II experience of a young man from Nebraska will be staged on Sunday, April 14, at 3 p.m. at the Boone Central Performing Arts Gym in Albion.

Betty King had many of her family members present for her retirement celebration last Saturday, March 9, after more than 14 years as executive director of the Newman Grove Housing Authority. Newman Grove Red Cross blood drive was held on Monday, March 4, at Fellowship Bible Church. There were 48 donors for this drive, and 50 units of blood were collected.

A transfer of 13.9 acres of land from the Newman Grove School District into the Humphrey School District was approved by the Newman Grove School Board during its regular meeting Monday night, Feb. 12.

Nebraska Hunter Education course is set to begin later this month at the Newman Grove City Hall, 606 Hale Avenue. The course has room for 25 registrants and is filling up rapidly.

KEARNEY – The transition from high school to college was a “really big change” for Karlie Wies. Away from her family for the first time, the University of Nebraska at Kearney freshman was a little overwhelmed by this new environment and the prospect of “figuring everything out on your own.” Then she met Julie Everett.
