The 2023-24 wrestling season was a challenging roller-coaster ride for the Boone Central Cardinals, who began the campaign shorthanded and battled injuries and illness throughout. Boone competitors upheld the Cardinal Pride of the school’s accomplished wrestling program, however, built through 60 years of sweat, blood, toil and tussle.

Following a long club wrestling tournament season, Boone Central youth competed in the NEUSA District Tournament this past weekend Cardinal wrestling coach Josh Majerus noted the difficulty of the event and expressed his positive impressions of local competitors.

Riverside has been in many state tournaments since the school was established in the merger with Spalding. The Chargers were often postseason favorites, with powerful teams, outstanding seasons and rewarding championships.

Dave Stoddard, president of the Northeast Nebraska All Star Football Classic Board of Directors, has announced coaches, officials, and player rosters for the 2024 game. Mike Hassler of Wakefield and Cory Valasek of Riverside Schools have been named head coaches for the 11th Red vs.

Cardinal speech team brought home yet another sweepstakes championship from the Battle Creek Braves Classic tournament last Saturday, Feb. 17, at Battle Creek.

Game night at St Paul Lutheran Church, rural Tilden, will be held Friday, March 8, starting at 5:30 p.m. This event of games, fun, and fellowship was rescheduled from January due to the snow storms.

Seven Boone Central wrestlers traveled to the promised land - Omaha - this past week to compete in the 2024 Nebraska State Championships at CHI Health Center Arena. As usual, the Cardinals’ results were mixed.

There were no surprises for the Boone Central Cardinals and their fans in Friday’s 2023-24 regular season finale at Crofton. Boone was in complete control from the outset, as records indicated it should have been, and headed to postseason play with a 70-36 rout of the host Warriors.

Every season ends the same way. Win or go home.
