To call Carson Wood’s senior wrestling season tumultuous is just scratching the surface. The 2023-24 mat season became an excruciating challenge for the decorated Cardinal.

The National High School Athletic Coaches Association (NHSACA) and the Nebraska Coaches Association (NCA) recently announced the advancement of 12 coaches as finalists for the National High School Athletic Association National Coach of the Year.

Boone Central FFA Chapter has eight members who recently qualified for state competition and received Golds awards in Proficiency. The state qualifiers include: • Brant Benes in beef production • Bella Meyer in sales and service • Audra Groth in diversified livestock production • Katelyn Krohn in hospitality, restaurant and tourism • Briana Johnson in health and human services • Cassidy Maricle in sheep production • Britney Naber in ag processing • Ava Buhlmann in veterinary science.

It’s one of the most exciting weekends of the Nebraska winter athletic calendar. District wrestling. State bound or done for wrestlers who have given their all throughout the season. One chance, one shot. Drama, indeed.

This past week, Boone Central had additional senior student-athletes sign their Letters of Intent to play sports at the collegiate level. The 2024 class continues to make its mark on Cardinal athletics, inspiring those who have the same dreams.

Boone Central hit a bit of a momentum speed bump in a tough loss to GI Northwest Thursday, but the Cardinals were still able to get a split in the week’s two games and have been been victorious in 8 of their last 10 games.

Boone Central Girls Golf Coach Amy Allgood has received a new award created by the Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA). The NSAA has anoounced the inaugural recipients of the NSAA Champions for Coaches award.
